Jeff Haplern Saluted for his Donations for U.S. Troops
Off the ice, Dallas Stars center Jeff Halpern has displayed a grace and generosity that has earned him as much admiration and respect as anything he has accomplished on the ice. Halpern arrived in Dallas with a desire to give back and make a difference in the community in which he now lives. Halpern graciously donated four premium tickets at the beginning of the season to the men and women who serve our country in the armed forces with a specific emphasis to those brave souls who have been wounded, or lost family members in combat.
On Friday, February 23rd, the Coalition to Salute America's Heroes honored Dallas Stars Center, Jeff Halpern, with the Homefront Hero Award in special recognition for his volunteer commitment and outstanding contributions on behalf of the wounded and disabled veteran community. Jeff was presented with a U.S. Flag that was flown over a forward operating location in Northern Iraq on September 11th, 2006. To the men and women of the United States Armed Forces, the flag symbolizes the concept of duty, honor, and country.
Chief Master Sergeant Page and First Sergeant Martin presented Jeff with the American Flag, along with a certificate of presentation. Following the flag presentation, Corporal J.R. Martinez presented Jeff with a Hometown Heroes plaque in honor of his generous contribution. Through Jeff's contribution, the Dallas Stars have been able to give back to those who risk their lives to defend our freedom.
"At this crucial time in history, we are humbly reminded of the sacrifices that countless military personnel have made on our behalf to ensure our freedom," stated Halpern. "We are proud beyond words of the men and women who are currently serving to preserve world peace".
The members of the coalition, dressed in their uniforms, were later recognized that evening on ice during the Dallas Stars vs. Anaheim game, and received a standing ovation from the crowd as the morning's presentation was broadcast on the ProStar scoreboard.
The Coalition to Salute America's Heroes (www.saluteheroes.org) is a non-partisan 501© (3) organization, created to provide an easy and meaningful way for individuals, corporations and others to help our severely wounded and disabled veterans and their families rebuild their lives. Severely wounded and disabled War on Terror veterans fight even tougher battles here at home as they struggle to adjust to their newfound circumstances and post-war life. The Coalition to Salute America's Heroes enables all of us to express our appreciation and support to these heroes by reaching out with much-needed programs that will help them succeed in their challenging new world so they may ultimately enjoy a productive and rewarding life. Programs include development of conferences to help the wounded, building homes for the paralyzed and blind, programs to support families visiting their wounded loved ones in military hospitals, as well as many other initiatives.
