All things Pitkanen
So Philly wants to trade Joni Pitkanen now that they have Timmonen from Nashville. I think he's still a good bargain at $2M and they should keep him for another year at least. Anyway, here is a rumor from SI.com that Carolina wants to get him:
The Hurricanes are trying to make a swap of defensemen, and general manager Jim Rutherford confirmed Monday that the deal is being delayed while a Carolina player decides whether to waive his no-trade clause. The Flyers may be the most likely trade partner, with 23-year-old Joni Pitkanen, the fourth pick in the 2002 draft, on the trading block. Niclas Wallin, who considered returning to Sweden after the 2006 Stanley Cup win, was given a no-trade clause as part of the four-year, $6.9 million contract he signed that summer.
If Carolina can pull this deal off (trading a nobody for Pitkanen), then this will balance out the horrible move last year of trading away Jack Johnson.
