Best pure goal scorer in NHL
The Hockey News asked 30 NHLers, “Who is the best pure goal-scorer in the NHL?”
Of the 30 players polled, 16 players (53 per cent) said Ilya Kovalchuk, seven (24 per cent) believed Alexander Ovechkin, six (20 per cent) suggested Jaromir Jagr, and one (3 per cent) liked Jarome Iginla.
Slick Philadelphia winger Simon Gagne is tied with Kovalchuk for second in the NHL with 37 goals, behind Jagr's 40, but didn't gain a single vote.
Players were not allowed to name someone from their own squad and some respondents asked to remain anonymous.
---
I would have to say that in my own opinon Alexander Ovechkin is the best. He doesn't have a lot of guys to play with, and he's scored some amazing goals.

Was this from this season? There are a few names I am surprised that are not in there such as Crosby for one. I am not surprised Jagr is on there

Yes, the poll was very recent (a week or so ago).
30 Players were polled and they were only allowed to choose one player that they thought was the best pure goal scorer. I guess no one chose Crosby?

Crosby is a playmaker rather than a pure goal scorer.
I'd say Ilya Kovalchuk is the best pure goal scorer in the NHL today.

RE: Best pure goal scorer in NHL
Depends on the definition of "pure goal scorer" ..
Jaromir Jagr, Jerome Iginla, and Alex Ovechkin do more then just score goals.
Ilya Kovalchuk's entire game is about scoring goals, he's always on his off-wing ( left side ) shooting one-timers.
That's why Ilya gets my vote for best pure goal scorer.

The best active goal scorer in my mind is Joe Sakic. His wristshot at this point is legendary. Other guys I'd want taking the puck in a close game for me are Marian Hossa, Martin Havlat, Mike Modano, and Martin Gelinas (although hes probably a better choice for "most clutch" instead of "best pure goal scorer")

RE: Best pure goal scorer in NHL
Of course I would say Kovalchuk, but my opinion is pretty biased . Besides Kovi, I'd have to say the obvious, Ovechkin based on some of the truely amazing goals I've seen from him.
