Brad Richards

Once Tampa is eliminated, do you posters think Brad Richards will be shopped around? Tampa already has a lot of money locked up in St. Louis and Vinnie and Richards is a RFA. As we have seen this year, Tampa obviously needs to put some money towards a capable goalie and defense for next year.

RE: Brad Richards

I think they'd be better off moving St. Louis ..

Richards is more important to their team IMO.

RE: Brad Richards

Yeah, I think St-Louis will be shopped around for a great goaltender.

Maybe Montreal could land Vinny Lecavalier? Maybe they'll show some interess for Ribeiro Toungue

RE: Brad Richards

I agree that Richards is more important than St Louis, but i think St Louis is a major player in Tampa bay. They shouldn't have paid LeCavalier and St Louis those big contracts (around 6M each/year), now they have to match it for the other players with similar stats...but I guess in this modern NHL, the players only think of making as much money as possible, and LeCavalier's and St Louis agents were smart enough to pull those big contracts...

Below is a nice article from thefourthperiod.com talking about this situation:

Could the Bolts deal Richards?
TheFourthPeriod.com

Lightning center Brad Richards will become a restricted free agent this summer and is likely to command close to the max in the NHL's new salary-cap world.

Star forwards Martin St. Louis and Vincent Lecavalier make $12.5 million combined and the Bolts also have top defenseman Pavel Kubina to worry about come July 1.

According to the St. Paul Star-Tribune, the Lightning could be forced to deal one of Richards or Kubina.

Although John Grahame has heated up, Tampa Bay still badly wants a goalie, but the Lightning can't take on payroll.

The Star-Tribune claims the Minnesota Wild need a No. 1 center or top blueliner, and the Lightning may be the only viable dancing partner where true assets could be attained in a Manny Fernandez trade.

The Bolts have been scouting the Wild throughout the entire month and Minny GM Doug Risebrough canceled his trip to watch the Wild play in Columbus on Friday so he could work the phones.

The Montreal Canadiens are also supposedly interested in both Richards and Kubina. Habs GM Bob Gainey has expressed an interest in making a change to his roster and is supposedly in the market for both a center and a top-two defenseman.

Richards has notched 15 goals and 33 assists in 51 games with the Bolts this season, while Kubina has tallied three goals and 17 assists in 49 games.

RE: Brad Richards

My 2 cents for that article, Manny Fernandez is a good goalie but IMO Tampa shouldn't do that trade unless a good young prospect (a la, Burns or O'Sullivan) is included.

Montreal doesn't have the expendable assests IMO needed to get Richards and Kubina without screwing up their team, I just can't see a viable trade.

I also have a feeling Kubina leaves the Bolts as a UFA ..

RE: Brad Richards

St.Louis is small and fast but isnt as important to the lightning as Brad. St.Louis will most likely be shopped to a team like Boston or Florida. Although I do think it would be completley stupid to send St.Louis to Florida.

Also there might be a spot for him in Atlanta or Vancouver... and maybe Calgary will welcome Marty back.
