quite a hefty raise but IMO hes worth it, i feel sorry for the sabres they have Alot of talented players going to arbatration and they might have to trade a few to make cap.

RE: Briere awarded 5 million 1 year contract from Arbitration.

Your right and that is a lot of money.

I think he is a great leader that is worth the money, however it is reported by TSN

"For that reason, the Sabres were rumoured to be quietly shopping Briere throughout the arbitration process, and Briere could still be traded within the next couple of days - provided the Sabres accept the one-year deal. Montreal, Los Angeles and Atlanta are among the teams in the mix."

IF The sabers don't want to pay him, and i think they'd be doumb not to, they could get a nice trade from Montreal and LA.
It doesn;t seem that far fecthed to see him off to one of those cities.

$5 million for a guy who's best season is 65 points is too much in my opinion. Can't wait to see what Gomez will get now.

i agree with you on that. i don't think he should have been awarded that much. i wouldn't be surprised if he gets traded somewhere. it would be nice if he stayed in buffalo but unless they can either clear some cap space or sign/get players that don't get paid much, i can see briere being traded.

The thing I wonder is, will teams still be interested in him after hearing the contract? After a year he's a ufa and may not stay with you so is a rental player who's never put up more than 65 points worth $5 million for the year? Buffalo would have to trade that contract if they have any hopes of getting someone in return for him before he goes ufa in 48 hours if they can't re-sign him.

Briere is a great leader for the Sabres. I think 5 mill is a varley reasonable price... I think 4.5 mill for Daniel would of been more reasonable though. Im sure that he will return with the sabres for one more season before heading off too another city.

Briere was a great member of the sabres last year and shall be a good member for whatever team he plays for next year IMO.

Ya, if he hadn't had that hernia and had been able to play more games he would've scored a lot more points but the arbitrators can't look at that. They have to just look at what he's done in the past. We all know how good he is but he still hasn't broken through and put up the points totals that a guy who should be getting $5 mil a year has.

I think he is worth it but theres a lot of worry considering he is small and a big hit could take him out for half the year. There could be a trade some possible buyers are montreal, or la.
