RE: Brind'Amour Resigns
So thats great for Canes to have him back but 5 years is way long and not smart,
one of the small print items about contracts i don't think a lot of people noticed is that if a player retires before his contract is up then the team has to contuine to pay him every year out of there cap.
So if Brind'Amour needs to play 5 years, can he stay worth it for that long? or will they then let him eat up cap, or even try to trade MR. Caniac

RE: Brind'Amour Resigns
Brind'amour is not your typical 35 year old player. He's probably in the best shape of all the guys in the nhl, even those much younger than him. He's renowned league-wide for his workouts, that's why they call him Rod the Bod. Will he still put up good offensive numbers when he's 40? Probably not but he brings so much else to the team as both a great leader, motivator and through solid two-way play. All I see happening is him moving back to the third line when he gets older.

RE: Brind'Amour Resigns
that's interesting. maybe the 'canes saw something or liked what he brought to the team or brind amour proved something to the 'canes in order for them to sign him for 5 more years. my only question is, how well is he going to be able to play when he's 39-40 years old?

RE: Brind'Amour Resigns
Since the team acquired him from Philly years ago they've seen plenty things they like in him. I think his role will be that of a two-way forward and faceoff specialist towards the end of his contract. Any offense they can still get out of him at that point is bonus. He'll be an excellent mentor to younger guys like Staal and Williams and he's an amazing leader. His physical shape will never be an issue.

RE: Brind'Amour Resigns
Old topic but figured I'd bump it since I heard some news concerning it. Canes GM Jim Rutherford said in an interview the other day that this may not even be Brind'amour last contract with the team. Can you imagine him playing past 40? I think he could definetely do it. He actually posted his highest ever fitness scores this year in training camp and look how good he's been so far.

RE: Brind'Amour Resigns
Look at a guy like Brodeur. He's 34, and his deal takes him to 39-40. Is he still going to be this good then, probably not. But that isn't the point. He can't go anywhere else. He belongs in Jersey and even if hes not a the top of his game, it means a lot to have him there. Same with Stevens and Daneyko. Everyteam has these guys, the ones you just can't let go, and Brind'Amour is that for the Canes. I think its a good deal.
