Brodeur-less Devils welcome Sabres to the Rock
I don't think anyone will disagree with me that Brodeur is going to make it to the Hall of Fame. But his consistency is just remarkable. He's in a different class of goalies! The class of Ken Dryden, Patrick Roy, Dominik Hasek, etc.

(Sports Network) - One thing has been consistent for the New Jersey Devils over their last 56 games, and that has been the presence of goaltender Martin Brodeur.
Brodeur, though, will see his consecutive starts streak halted this evening, as an elbow injury will cause him to miss his team's home test against the Buffalo Sabres at the Prudential Center.
The 36-year-old netminder started New Jersey's final 41 games last year -- dating back to dating back January 8 -- and was in net for each of its five playoff games versus the Rangers. Brodeur than began this season with 10 consecutive starts, but was forced out of Saturday's 6-1 win over Atlanta.
Brodeur skated off the ice just over 6 1/2 minutes into the second period. He initially appeared to hurt himself stretching for a shot and a few moments later went down to the ice clutching his left arm. The goaltender stopped all five shots he faced before exiting, getting credit with his 544th career win. That is just seven shy of Patrick Roy's all-time mark of 551.
The four-time Vezina Trophy winner, who had an X-ray and MRI done on Sunday, has led all NHL netminders in games played in each of the last two seasons, appearing in 78 games in 2006-07 before playing in 77 games a yea ago.
Kevin Weekes took over for Brodeur and made 14 saves in his first appearance of the season. He appeared in just nine games (5 starts) last season as Brodeur's backup.
Brodeur's injury is just the latest for the Devils, as both Bobby Holik (pinkie surgery) and Brian Rolston (high ankle sprain) are on injured reserve, while Andy Greene is out for the next four-to-six weeks due to right hand surgery.
Zach Parise scored twice in Saturday's five-goal win to give him a goal in each of his last six games, tying a franchise record shared by Pat Verbeek, Kirk Muller, Valeri Zelepukin and Bobby Holik. Parise has nine goals on the season, tied for second most in the league.
Patrik Elias notched a goal and an assist in the victory, Johnny Oduya registered three assists and Jay Pandolfo, Brian Gionta and Nicklas Bergfors all scored once.
The Devils are 1-0-1 on a four-game homestand that wraps on Wednesday in Tampa Bay, and are 3-1-1 as the host this season.
Buffalo snapped a three-game losing streak in a big way on Saturday, as Ryan Miller stopped all 29 shots faced in a 5-0 win for his eight career shutout and first of the season.
Miller, who is 3-6-3 with a 2.52 goals against average in 12 career starts versus the Devils, leads the NHL with a 1.82 GAA and is third with a .936 save percentage.
Thomas Vanek scored twice to give him an NHL-high 11 goals, while Jason Pominville added a goal and an assist. Derek Roy and Daniel Paille also tallied for Buffalo.
The Sabres are 3-0-2 as the road team this year.
All four games between the Devils and Sabres last year ended in a shootout, with New Jersey winning three of four. Though nine of the last 10 meetings between the teams have been decided
