Bruins hire Sweeney to monitor prospects

The Bruins made some very good choices in the past in the draft session, the biggest is probably getting Bergeron in the 2nd round choice (45th overall) in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. Sweeeney can help develop the new prospects, but I think the team has to get some free agents to get more experience to the current team.

Quote:
Boston -- The Boston Bruins hired Don Sweeney as the director of player development yesterday. Sweeney, a former Harvard teammate of incoming general manager Peter Chiarelli, will be responsible for tracking the progress of all prospects in the Bruins' organization. He was drafted by the Bruins out of high school as the eighth pick in the 1984 NHL entry draft, but played four seasons at Harvard, including three as Chiarelli's teammate. Sweeney turned professional in 1988 and played 15 seasons and 1,052 games in a Bruins uniform, one of four players in franchise history to play in more than 1,000 games.

Sounds more like a new guy giving his buddy a job for no reason. Gorton (and company) seem to be getting screwed outta responsibilities in the process.
