Canadiens Trade Grabovski to Toronto

Grabovski is a very talented player that might have a great future in the NHL. But he is somewhat a small player (a la Petrov) that should play harder than other players to prove his mark. His ethics are not the greatest either. He has criticized the Habs coach several times last year, something that the Canadiens probably never forgot. But overall, he has a lot of talent, and might be a great addition to the Leafs. Time will tell.

MONTREAL - Montreal Canadiens General Manager Bob Gainey today Thursday the acquisition of defenceman Greg Pateryn along with the Toronto Maple Leafs’ second round pick in 2010, in return for forward Mikhaïl Grabovski.

Greg Pateryn, 18, was selected in the fifth round by the Maple Leafs, 128th overall, in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft in Ottawa. Last season, in his first campaign in the United States Hockey League, Pateryn led the Ohio Jr. Blue Jackets defencemen with 27 points (3 goals, 24 assists) in 60 games. He also led his team with 145 penalty minutes. The Royal Oak, Michigan native was also named to the Eastern Division Team in the USHL Prospects/All-Star Game and received USHL Defensive Player of The Week honors in March.

Pateryn, 6-2, 212 pounds, will join the University of Michigan for the 2008-09 season.

Mikhaïl Grabovski was selected by the Canadiens in the fifth round, 150th overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. He played 27 career regular-season games over the past two seasons with the Canadiens, recording nine points (3 goals, 6 assists).
