VANCOUVER, British Columbia (Ticker) -- Defenseman Aaron Miller, who was signed this summer by the Vancouver Canucks, will have minor abdominal surgery on Tuesday.

The procedure likely will not keep him off the ice for an extended period of time, according to general manager Dave Nonis.

"After further consultation with our medical team it was decided that surgery was the best course of action for Aaron," Nonis said. "It is expected that Aaron will make a full recovery in two weeks and will rejoin his teammates on the ice during our preseason schedule."

Last season, Miller had no goals, eight assists and 60 penalty minutes in 82 games with the Los Angeles Kings. He was inked by the Canucks on July 9.

Miller, 35, was originally drafted in the fifth round - 88th overall - by the New York Rangers in the 1989 NHL Entry Draft.

The 6-4, 218-pounder also played for the Quebec Nordiques and subsequently the Colorado Avalanche before playing the last six years with the Kings.

The 11-year veteran has career totals of 24 goals and 86 assists in 620 games. The Buffalo, New York native also represented the United States in the 2002 and 2006 Winter Olympics.
