Detroit wants Hasek to stay
http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/view/42
If goalie Dominik Hasek wants to play next season, the Red Wings are all for it. Hasek didn't commit one way or another to playing another season after Tuesday's series-ending 4-3 loss to Anaheim
I think its great if Hasek stays on for another year considering how well he played, but I really hope that Detroit lets Jimmy Howard be full time backup soon.

RE: Detroit wants Hasek to stay
He was really good during the playoffs and I didnt get to see much of him during the year. As long as he's still good and cheap I don't see why they wouldn't keep him.

RE: Detroit wants Hasek to stay
if hasek stayed it would be great for detroit considering he was healthy all this year and as long as your getting a healthy hasek you are getting the good hasek and if he doesnt stay detroit maybe in trouble in goaltending purposes

RE: Detroit wants Hasek to stay
there is another article in the Detroit Free Press
http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/artic...3/SPORTS05
The article basically says the Wings should go after Giguere as a #1 priority and Hasek in case they can't get Jiggy. I think this is a good idea and I wanted this to happen at the start of the season
a) Hasek isn't as athletic/quick as he used to be and he can get beaten up high since he goes down too quickly
b) you weaken Anaheim by stealing their #1 goalie (Bryzgalov is good, but I think JS is better)
c) you lock up a #1 quality goalie until Howard is ready to take over

RE: Detroit wants Hasek to stay
I am a die hard Red Wings fan, but in the opposing view, here are 3 reasons to go against your statements:
A) Hasek has always been beaten up high due to his flop style, there is no way in hell that he can get high shots when he is on his back, no matter how quick he is.
B) For those of you who think Giguere will go to to the Red Wings, you must have no hockey sense. Do you really believe that Anaheim will give up their #1 Goalie that brought them to the Stanley Cup Finals, and possibly even win them the cup?
C) Jimmy Howard will never be a solid goaltender for Detroit. I realize he doesnt have much NHL experience, but Detroit is not the place to learn. Detroit goaltenders take the heat for every thing bad that happens during the season and or playoffs. A young man like him in net would have his confidence completely destroyed.
I realize that it is not impossible for Giguere to be traded, but it is improbable. Also, Dominik Hasek's price will increase this season due to his relatively impressive performance. He wont be the $800,000 plus incentives type of guy any more. His price will be higher if he re-signs. (but not quite as high as some other elite talents).
As stated by Doug Wilson (San Jose Sharks GM), one of their goalies will be traded for sure. I think Detroit should pick up either Evgeni Nabokov or Vesa Toskala, they are both NHL proven. If this doesnt happen, I say let Osgood start, and have Jimmy Howard become the back up, I dont personally like the idea of Jimmy Howard becoming the backup goaltender, but it does save cap space and allows Detroit to install a powerful Centerman to replace lang. Available choice include Drury, Briere, and Gomez.

RE: Detroit wants Hasek to stay
The Wings won't get a goalie from any California team this year, unless it's the Kings. haha
The Wings don't have the cap space for the massive contract Giguere will be wanting. And the Sharks and Wings are not very compatible trading partners for a few reasons. One of them being that you don't trade with a rival, and another being that the Wings don't really have anything the Sharks could use that they could work out contract-value-wise.

RE: Detroit wants Hasek to stay
I think Hasek willl be back for 2 reasons:
1) cheaper alternative than most other options
2) Wings front office (Holland, Illitch) is very loyal to its veterans. If Hasek is interested, then Holland will make it happen.

DETROIT (AP) - Dominik Hasek wants to play another season for the Red Wings.
"We haven't talked contract yet because the whole issue was whether Dom wanted to play or not," general manager Ken Holland told The Associated Press on Wednesday. "His agent told me Friday that he wanted to come back, but we agreed to let him take his vacation over the next few days to make sure that's what he really wanted to do. When he returned, nothing changed.
"He wants to come back to Detroit. But he's an unrestricted free agent, so now we have to negotiate a new deal. .. I don't anticipate it being a problem finding common ground."
The 42-year-old Hasek is a six-time Vezina Trophy winner and two-time NHL MVP. He signed a one-year contract worth US$750,000 and earned $900,000 in bonuses for helping the Red Wings advance past the second round for the first time since 2002. Detroit was eliminated in the Western Conference finals by the Anaheim Ducks, who went on to win the Stanley Cup.
Hasek was 38-11-6 with a 2.05 goals-against average, .913 save percentage and eight shutouts during his 15th regular season and third in Detroit. In the playoffs, Hasek was 10-8 with a 1.79 GAA, .923 save percentage and two shutouts.
Looks like he wants to stay.
