Devils made offer for Hossa

Quote:
According to the Newark Star-Ledger, Devils GM Lou Lamoriello made an offer to acquire Marian Hossa from the Atlanta Thrashers at the NHL trade deadline.

The paper reports Lamoriello wasn't willing to compete with the package the Pittsburgh Penguins offered, and the team backed off.

The Devils were looking to add a goal-scoring forward prior to the deadline, but came up empty.

Sources tell TFP the team was also trying to land Chicago Blackhawks' center Robert Lang.

"I don't get into any of those things. I'm pleased with the people we have and the elements we have," Lamoriello told the Star-Ledger. "I never look back at anything. I have absolutely no regrets and would never make a trade if sacrificing the future were at stake. Today is important for us, but tomorrow is also important."

It's interesting to learn so many teams were trying to sign Hossa: Canadiens, Penguins, Sens, now the Devils and I think a couple of other two.
But I think Lamoriello took the right decision. The Penguins have great young stars, so they could "afford" losing a future first round pick and their 2007 first round pick. But Devils is an older team, and the future should be as or more important than the present for them.
