Devils pulling away in Atlantic

• Devils 2, Blackhawks 1, SO
• New Jersey edges Chicago in shootout
• Blackhawks-Devils, Sums
• Blackhawks-Devils Preview
• Devils 3, Hurricanes 2, SO
• Hurricanes-Devils, Sums

Patrik Elias - #26 - Center - 6'1" - 195lbs
News: Patrik Elias is mired in a big slump as he has not registered a point in the past five games.
Impact: The skilled center has only two goals in 15 games this season. However, Elias is still getting chances and creating opportunities for others, but the puck is just not bouncing his way. He is one of the best players in the league, and will bounce back from this slump. In fact, it may be a good time to acquire him, as his current fantasy owners may be frustrated with his early season play. If you own Elias, have patience, he will come around. (Fri. Nov 10, 2006)

Zach Parise - #9 - Center - 5'11" - 185lbs
News: Zach Parise scored in the shootout to help the Devils defeat the Blackhawks, 2-1.
Impact: The real stars in this game were the goalies though, with Martin Brodeur stopping 23 of 24 shots he faced, and Brian Boucher standing on his head to stop 26 of 27 shots for Chicago. Michael Rupp scored for New Jersey in regulation, and Tuomo Ruutu bulged the twine for Chicago. Parise scored on New Jersey's first chance in the shootout, and Brian Gionta scored on New Jersey's second chance. Brodeur turned back both Chicago chances, for what proved to be a very short shootout with only four skaters participating. Parise only has 12 points in 15 games, however he has a chance to be a very special player and actually was on a six-game scoring streak before going pointless tonight. He should be active in deeper pools for his offensive upside. (Thu. Nov 9, 2006)

David Hale - #2 - Defense - 6'1" - 215lbs
News: David Hale has been cleared to play.
Impact: Hale will not play Thursday night against the Chicago Blackhawks, but the Devils feel he will be ready to suit up this weekend, when the Devils play host to the Florida Panthers on Saturday night.

RE: Devils pulling away in Atlantic

I wouldn't say the Devils are pulling away. They are only 2 pts ahead of the rangers and the Pens only trail by 3pts but have played 2 less games. It is surprising to see the Atlantic division doing so poorly. The Atlantic look more like the Southeast division of the past.

RE: Devils pulling away in Atlantic

The eastern conference is tougher to play in than the western conference. That's first off. And that's not a knock on the western teams, either. The east is just different. They were saying on TV the other night how the west would love to change the schedule so they see the east more, but how the east would never go for it because they hardly ever fly as it is. Their teams are so close to one another. Which, in turn, creates better rivalries and then in turn, creates tougher games to play in.

Anyway... David Hale was sent to Lowell for conditioning.

I don't see what this has to do with the Atlantic division playing like crap. I have heard guys in the west say (Nonis from Vancouver) that the new schedule doesn't really cut down on their travel that much. Only playing one eastern conference division on the road only really cuts out one trip to the east. They still have a lot of travelling.
