Ducks sign Travis Green

He was bought out by Boston earlier this summer and now the ducks have signed him to a one year deal for an undisclosed salary. He's a good faceoff man who's a decent fourth line center. Can chip in with a goal here and there.

Good depth signing By Burke, wonder how much the deals worth, 500-800 K?

That sounds about right as far as salary. Probably 700-800k I'd guess.

This is a good move. In a way it fills the scoring void left by Lupul on the wing. Since we already have a lot of centers [McDonald, Pahlsson, Marchant, Niedermayer (he plays wing but he's a center), Getzlaf and now Green] we can move Getzlaf to the wing and he'll hopefully fill in for Lupul. Plus he's a veteran and classy guy who will improve the locker room atmosphere. Good job, Burke!

Green can play the wing as well.

True, but he's a better center than Getzlaf and it gives Carlyle more options because McDonald, Marchant, and Pahlsson are all left handed whereas Green is right handed.

Green is a better center than Getzlaf? I don't think so. Green is a 4th liner and that's all he'll ever be at this point. He scored all of 10 goals last year.

I'm talking in terms of winning face-offs. Yes, Getzlaf is a much better player than Green but in terms of face-offs won (54.4%), Green dominates Getzlaf.

Being better at faceoffs doesn't make you a better center, though.

RE: Ducks sign Travis Green

It certainly helps that you start your team with the puck rather than without the puck the majority of the time. Besides, I did some research last night and Getzlaf is also a lefty. I pretty much guarantee Getzlaf will be playing wing and Green will take over the center duties on the 4th line.
