Fantasy hockey leagues - 2006
I'm going to try and get all the info together from the previous threads. So, here it goes:
We're going with 16 total people to be GMs of different teams divided into two leagues - Eastern Conference league and Western Conference league with 8 GMs per league. So far we have 13 people signed up - 7 in Eastern Conference league and 6 in Western Conference league. So that means that we need 1 more person to join the Eastern Conference League and 2 to join the Western Conference League. Sign up below on one of the threads depending on what conference you're team is in or on this board (and recruit others if you already have signed up) and we'll try to keep it straight. If we need to, we'll expand so that more people can participate and play (we're always willing to add more as long as it's an even number that are sign up and and even in each league, such as 9 or 10 in each). The absolute last day to sign up for Fantasy Hockey is 11:59:59pm Central Time (10:59:59pm Mountain Time, 9:59:59pm Pacific Time, 12:59:59pm Eastern Time) on Friday, August 18th. We will not accept anybody after that.

Eastern Conference League:

We will be doing the Fantasy Hockey Leagues on Yahoo.com. You will need a Yahoo ID/account to play. If you don't have one, you can go to yahoo.com and sign up for free (the league is free too - you just have to make sure you have a Yahoo ID).
As far as the draft goes, we will more than likely be doing a live draft where everybody signs in and picks their players (they obviously don't have to all be from the same team - you can pick players from different teams) at a certain date and time. We will try to keep the date and times in both leagues the same so there's no confusion. We will also try to keep the scoring structure the same and what you get points for (goals, assists, saves, etc) in both leagues. Here's a post from Andrew1125 on another thread (http://www.qnhl.com/QNHL-fantasy-league-...536-2.html) explaining some of the things on Yahoo's Fantasy Hockey leagues:
Yahoo has all your standard categories to choose from (G, A, P, PIM, +/-, PPP, PPG, PPA, SHG, SHA, SHP, SOG, FO, SH%, GAA, SV%, SHO, W, L)... I think that's all of them. You wouldn't use all of them, probably only 10 or 12. You can set the positions, ie number of C's, LW's, RW's, if you'd rather have simply W's instead of Left and Right then I think you can do that. Get to set the bench size, number of IR (injured reserve) slots, etc., etc. It's very simple to use, it's free, and you can customize just about everything.
If there are any questions, feel free to post it and either Julien or I will answer as best as we can. We'll post more information as it becomes available.
Here's the people who have signed up to be GMs in the leagues (based on conference):

Canuckfan792 --> Vancouver Canucks
Elgillis2004 (commissioner) --> Minnesota Wild
CraigM120 --> Detroit Red Wings

RE: Fantasy hockey leagues
Here's an update: Skip and The Big Red Machine have joined the fantasy league and have taken the Colorado Avalanche and New Jersey Devils respectively. We can still take 1 more for the Western Conference conference. We will start up the two leagues once Yahoo Fantasy Hockey starts - one for Western conference and one for Eastern Conference with each of us (Julien and me) being a commissioner of a league. So here's the list as of now:
Western Conference
Canuckfan792 --> Vancouver Canucks
Elgillis2004 (commissioner) --> Minnesota Wild
CraigM120 --> Detroit Red Wings
EagleBelfour --> Chicago Blackhawks
Sedin33 --> San Jose Sharks
Bubba64 --> Nashville Predators
Skip --> Colorado Avalanche
Eastern Conference
Julien696 (commissioner) --> Montreal Canadiens
Ryan! --> Ottawa Senators
Shane472 --> Carolina Hurricanes
Oster --> Atlanta Thrashers
Adrock --> Boston Bruins
Andrew1125 --> Toronto Maple Leafs
Canucks79 --> Florida Panthers
The Big Red Machine --> New Jersey Devils

RE: Fantasy hockey leagues
Okay everybody. I have a big favor to ask all involved with the fantasy hockey leagues. As you know, we are having two seperate fantasy leagues - one for the Eastern Conference lead by Julien696 and one for the Western Conference league lead by me. We are going to try and keep the leagues the same or as similar as possible as far as categories go and scoring.
My question involves the draft. I would like to know who prefers what kind of draft. There is the live draft where each of us set a date and time for the draft to happen and everyone signs in to participate. There is an autopick draft where the system picks your players for you. And third, there is an offline draft where I believe you pick the players you want and you send it to the commissioner and he/she does it for you. Whatever way we do, especially if we do an offline or autopick draft, you probably should have a big list in case players that you want higher on your list are taken.
Please post a reply on this thread for which draft type you would like. Obviously there are pros and cons for each one but possibly having an autopick or offline draft would be better in case we get a poor turnout for the live draft, so that's my input. PLEASE let us know which draft you would like to do, whether by PM or through this thread. We will decide which way to go depending on the votes.

RE: Fantasy hockey leagues
I would prefer the offline or autopick draft. Im more in favor though for the autopick because I think it would add a little excitment to the teams, and less time taken up.
You two are doing a great job with this league so far!

THanks Ryan!
We'll try to do the draft that we thin that is the best for the league. WE take your opinion in consideration.

RE: Fantasy hockey leagues
Both leagues will be keeper leagues. If there are more people, and enough people, interested after the August 18th deadline for full season play we can try to start up a league when Yahoo does midseason registration for leagues. We need one more person for the Western Conference league, so pass the word around if you know anybody who's interested (whether a member or not - just let us know what team they want and their name and we'll add it to the list or send them to this thread). We would like to keep it to 16, but if there are say another 2 or 4 people to give us a total of 18 or 20 who are interested in joining, we can work with it - just remember that there has to be the same number of teams/GMs in each Conference league (8, 9, 10, etc).

RE: Fantasy hockey leagues

I had not seen this mentioned before. Sorry, but if this is to be a keeper league then I would like to back out at this point. I have time for a number of leagues this season, but next year will be hectic for me and I don't want to commit to any more leagues than I have already for the 07-08 season. I was under the impression that this was a league that would not carry over into the following years.

RE: Fantasy hockey leagues
I brought it to the attention of Julien, Andrew. We're discussing it if we should change it. We'll keep everybody updated. But I think you are right though - we should do one year for each league and if they go well, we can go from there. I let Julien know that as well, so there is a possibly that it could change to one year for each league.

RE: Fantasy hockey leagues
For the FIrst year, WE'll do two one year season.(one for the EAst, one for the WEst). NExt year, dependeing on the number of members in the league, we'll do one (both conference in the same league, if we have less then 12 Gm) or two keeper league (EAst and West again). I'll say it again and again, there's always an available spot. Please, don't be shy to participate to the league. It's free and fun. THe last day of registration is August 18th.
