Fernandez Wants Out of Minnesota

http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/rumors/post/...=nhl,35127

Quote:
Long-time Minnesota Wild goalie Manny Fernandez says he expects to be traded this summer. And it's fine with him.

Fernandez says he would rather play for coaches and players who are more supportive. He shared duties with Dwayne Roloson for several seasons, then lost his job to first-year netminder Niklas Backstrom last season.

Fernandez feels that he can become a No. 1 goalie with a change of scenery.

I do feel kind of sorry for the guy since he had to share duties with Roloson and then lost his job to Backstrom because of his injury. On the other hand, he should realize that in a cap league, hockey is more of a business than ever and if someone cheaper can do just a good job (or better) as you, then you won't play. I bet he gets traded to a bad defensive team like Florida or Phoenix and will wish he was sharing goalie duties in Minnesota. He's a fair goalie that will be as good as his teammates are.

RE: Fernandez Wants Out of Minnesota

I'm with you. I do feel kind of bad for him but if he feels as though he can be a number one goalie with some other team, so be it. It shouldn't be a surprise that the Wild are trying to sign Backstrom and to free up some cap space, they would have to trade him. He probably will go to a team that needs a goalie like him and maybe he'll come to his senses like you say or maybe he'll like it there because he's playing more often. We'll have to wait and see how this plays out.

Personally, I'm expecting Backstrom to get signed, Fernandez to get traded, and Josh Harding coming up from the Houston Aeros and being the backup to Backstrom.

The Wild are better off without his bad attitude.

RE: Fernandez Wants Out of Minnesota

do you think they'll get anything besides a 1st rd pick? I have a feeling he'll get traded at the draft for a 1st rd pick and *maybe* something else tiny (like 3rd or 4th round pick, if they're lucky). However, the Wild need a puckmoving defenseman, but so does nearly every team in the league.
