NHL All-Star Fan Balloting opens Nov. 15



NEW YORK (November 10, 2006) -- Goaltender Martin Brodeur, defenseman Brian Rafalski, and fowards Patrik Elias, Brian Gionta, and Scott Gomez have all been selected on to the COLD-fX / NHL All-Star Fan Balloting, which opens Nov. 15.

For the first time ever, the NHL-All Star Fan Balloting process will be entirely digital. From Nov. 15 through Jan. 2, fans around the world can "CLICK TO VOTE" for the Eastern and Western Conference All-Star starters for the 2007 NHL All-Star Game on-line at NHL.com and through Bell Canada cell phones. Voting instructions for wireless customers will be available on NHL.com.

The 2006-07 season marks the 19th year in which fans will determine the starting lineups for the NHL All-Star Game. Fans can vote for six Eastern Conference All-Stars and six Western Conference All-Stars: three forwards, two defensemen and one goaltender for each team. If a player is not listed on the ballot, a space is provided for "write-in" votes. The three forwards, two defensemen and one goaltender from each Conference receiving the most votes will comprise the starting lineups. Each of the 30 NHL Clubs has at least two representatives on the ballot.

How Gomez and Elias made it I dont know. Elias has been, unfortunatly, terrible and Gomez has, as expected, been worse. It should only have been Brodeur, Rafalski, Gionta and Zach Parise. Parise has been by far the best skater on the team, and I think the most imporved from the 05/06 class (I'm not saying he's better than Crosby, Ovechkin and Phaneuf, just more improved. Its pretty hard for the Big 3 to get better.)

Meh, its the All-Star game.

Its not so much about having the best players as it is about having the ones with the most recognizable names and are the biggest celebrities. Hence the picks.
