Flyers announce coaching changes
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - The Philadelphia Flyers announced several coaching changes on Wednesday with the most notable moves being Joe Mullen and Jack McIlhargey being named assistant coaches.
The Flyers also returned former assistant Craig Berube back to his post as head coach of the Phantoms, Philadelphia's American Hockey League affiliate. Berube started last season as the head man for the Phantoms and was promoted to assistant coach on John Stevens' staff with the parent club after Ken Hitchcock was fired.
"We are extremely excited to have both the Flyers and Phantoms coaching staffs in place for the future," said Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren. "There has been a little internal shuffling with Craig (Berube) moving back to become head coach of the Phantoms again and adding Neil Little to the Phantoms staff. Kjell (Samuelsson) will continue to be a member of that staff as associate coach, with his main focus on the defensemen.
"Adding Jack McIlhargey and Joe Mullen to the Flyers staff gives John (Stevens) experience and knowledge from the offensive and the defensive end. Moving forward we feel very good about our coaching staffs."
The Flyers also announced that Kjell Samuelsson has been named an associate coach of the Phantoms while Neil Little will coach the goaltenders.
