Forsberg the No. 1 rental?
Who wouldn't want to have him on his team? Sure not me!

Forsberg the No. 1 rental?
Although the Philadelphia Flyers would still like to re-sign Peter Forsberg, he could end up being the hottest rental player at this season's Feb. 27 trade deadline.
If the Flyers weren't competitive by January, it would seem likely that Forsberg would seek a trade.
Forsberg, who becomes an unrestricted free agent this summer, makes $5.75 million, but there will only be about $1.24 million remaining on his contract at the deadline. That's the number teams would have to fit under their cap. That's important because so many teams are close to the $44 million cap.
There are some obvious teams that should have interest in Forsberg, particularly the Nashville Predators, a team with lofty playoff aspirations, and the Calgary Flames, a team that could still use a premium center to play with Jarome Iginla.
Nashville has cap room and plenty of younger players to trade, but the Predators, at $37 million, are spending more now than they can afford. The Flames are at $38 million, but they also are stretching their budget.
In the past, teams could rationalize over-spending by hoping that the new player's arrival would lead to more home playoff games and more revenue. But with revenue sharing now in place, teams no longer receive all of their playoff revenue anymore.
If Forsberg is going to be traded, you can't rule out every team up against the cap because teams will aggressively attempt to move some money for a chance to acquire him. With his playmaking, spunk and experience, he could be the final piece for a team close to being a Stanley Cup champion.

RE: Forsberg the No. 1 rental?
He has a ntc in his contract as well so he would have to waive it to be traded. I don't see why he wouldn't though, any team bound for the playoffs is way better than the flyers.

I wonder if the Flyers are willing to trade him, what they'd trade him for. Are they going to be looking to rebuild in the future, or rebuild for next season?
Also makes you wonder if Forsberg will go back to the Flyers next year. I hate players like that.

Anaheim just recalled one of their top goaltender prospects, which has sparked a rumor that Bryzgalov (plus probably picks and/or prospects) will be traded to Philadelphia for Forsberg.

Really? i hadn't heard that there were any serious trade rumours involving Forsberg. I think that if someone was going to trade for Forsberg they would do it close to the trade deadline especially with his injuries.

This is according to John Buccigross on ESPN.com (not that it's going to be Bryzgalov for Forsberg, but just that Forsberg might be traded).

Forsberg's value is dropping in every game he plays with the Flyers. His feet are all screwed up, and sadly, I think he may have to throw in the towel on the rest of his career.

Since Forsberg missed a few games after a 4 game stretch with no points he has 4 points in his last 4 games. He played great in that game they won against the Ducks.

RE: Forsberg the No. 1 rental?
I don't think he needs to resort to anything as drastic as retiring.

RE: Forsberg the No. 1 rental?
Nah, Forsberg isn't close to retiring. While Jagr was with the Pittsburgh Penguins, he had problems with his groin and it looked like he may have to retire, but look at him now.
I think he (Forsberg) might get traded around the All-Star break. This way, they will have time to find him suitable linemates on whichever team he gets traded too, but the price for him might be higher at that time.
