Forsberg visits foot specialist; future uncertain
The futures of Peter Forsberg and the Philadelphia Flyers depend on the captain's right foot.
According to a report in the Philadelphia Inquirer on Thursday, Forsberg -- who said Monday that his decision to sign a new deal depends on how well his foot heals from surgery -- visited foot specialist Robert Anderson on Wednesday in Charlotte, N.C.
Interim general manager Paul Holmgren told the Inquirer that Forsberg, who had surgery to correct a congenital defect in his right foot in May, still isn't comfortable with his skate boot.
"It's a routine follow-up that was scheduled, but he took [equipment manager] Harry [Bricker] with him," Holmgren told the Inquirer. "They want to see his foot in the skates and see if they can find the perfect fit."
According to the Inquirer, the Flyers have had boots custom-made from molds of Forsberg's foot.
"For whatever reason, we have not been able to come up with the right fit in his boot yet," Holmgren told the newspaper. "We're getting close and we've tried a lot of things.
"We want him to see the doctor and make sure everything is OK, and then we will work on the skate issue," Holmgren said.
Forsberg said Monday that, before he commits to a new deal, he wants to be 100 percent healthy.
