Gomez, Drury losers in Rangers debuts
NEW YORK (AP) -- Mike Knuble scored two goals to lead the Philadelphia Flyers to a 5-0 victory over New York on Saturday night, spoiling Scott Gomez and Chris Drury's first preseason game for the Rangers.
Sami Kapanen, Mike Richards and Steve Downie also scored for the Flyers (2-1-0). Both Philadelphia goalies played well. Martin Biron made 19 saves through the first two periods. Antero Nittymaki took over to start the third and made 14 stops to preserve the shutout.
The Rangers (1-1-0) used mostly prospects and minor leaugers in their preseason opener Friday, a 4-3 win over the New Jersey Devils. Against the Flyers, the Rangers rolled out the veterans as forward Jaromir Jagr and goalie Henrik Lundqvist saw their first preseason action. It was also the first game the Rangers' two high-profile free-agent signings -- centers Gomez and Drury.
The Flyers took charge early. After Lundqvist made a sparkling glove save on Kapanen's backhand shot on a penalty shot 11:23 into the game, Kapanen broke through at 12:15 and Knuble 1:25 later.
Richards made it 3-0 at 13:04 of the second. Downie and Knuble scored in the third.

This has been a good start to the pre-season for the Flyers. Nice to beat the Rangers the way they did with their #1 goalie and best players on the ice.

Wow.. That's surprising!
Just goes to show that any team has a chance at beating any other team.
Does anyone know if Briere played in that game?
If so, it's kind of ironic with both ex-co captians playing against each other.

Philidelphia has so much potential right now to be a good club this season.

Its only exhibition. I bet those two are still trying to assimilate into their roles on the ice and with their linemates. They'll be fine by the time the regular season starts.
