Gordie Howe Hatrick

On Tuesday night Patrick Eaves recorded a 'Gordie Howe Hatrick' with a goal, an assist and a fight. It wasn't much of a fight since Tucker jumped him after Eaves knocked Tucker over on a clean hit. Tucker being dirty is not the point though. The interesting thing to me was that Gordie Howe only had 1 game in which he had a goal, a fight and an assist during his career. So if Eaves happens to do this again I think that it should be changed officially to a 'Patrick Eaves Hatrick'.

RE: Gordie Howe Hatrick

When Shane O'Brien scored his first career NHL goal last week against The Red Wings, he too had a Gordie Howe Hat-Trick. He fought Brad Norton.

Patrik Eaves hasn't accomplished a Gordie Howe hat trick: In ice hockey a Gordie Howe hat trick is a variation on the hat trick, wherein a player accomplishes the following in a single game: scores a goal, gets an assist, and wins a fight.(From Wikipedia)

Also, the first player to ever record a Gordie Howe HatTrick is Harry Cameron, of the St Pats of Toronto

EDIT: I'm not sure if a Gordie Howe hat trick is winning a fight or only be in a fight. I've read both, but I think the most trust sources say that you have to win a fight. I hope someone who have some knowledge on this aspect will tell us.

RE: Gordie Howe Hatrick

I have never heard anything about winning the fight. From what I know it is just being in a fight. I have seen a few sites reporting that Eaves had the Gordie Howe and they were talking about it after the game as well. Wikipedia might say it is a win but the guys who cover hockey seemed to say it was just being in the fight.

RE: Gordie Howe Hatrick

While it certainly makes sense that you'd have to win the fight for it to be considered a Gordie Howe hat-trick, I'm not completely sure that that's the case. When O'Brien got a goal, an assist, and a fight (nobody really won the fight, it was more of a wrestling match), the commentators were quick to announce that he had gotten a Gordie Howe hat-trick. I guess we'll never reallly know, as there isn't exactly a rule book on the finer aspects of a Gordie Howe hat-trick.
