Heart Surgery for Teppo Numminen
The Buffalo Sabres have announced that defenseman Teppo Numminen will have heart surgery.
Numminen was diagnosed with a dilated aorta in 2004 when he was playing for the Dallas Stars.
Numminen learned of new complications Monday when undergoing a routine examination at the Cleveland Clinic prior to the start of training camp. The Sabres say its too early to tell if the surgery is career or season threatening.
General Manager Darcy Regier told reporters hes still learning details of the situation, but did say the surgery Numminen needs is more extensive than two previous procedures hes undergone to deal with an irregular heartbeat.

as much as he is a great defensemen it should give their defensive prospect a chance to show there stuff maybe a nathan paesch or a michael funk?

This is pretty crazy. I hope he comes through everything well. This is going to hurt the team, he is one of the only leaders left on the team.

I had completely forgotten about his previous issues. I hope he makes a quick recovery! From what I understand he's a real stand up guy.

I just heard that Numminen has been suspended without pay by the Sabres for coming to training camp out of shape. This doesn't seem right to me, it's not like he is 20 pounds overweight he has a heart condition.

I heard it on Buffalo Sports Radio the other day. I heard an interview with Numminen today on the same station and he said he was not going to worry about missing paychecks. He was just going to focus on recovering.
