Huet's Back
The Canadiens inked a deal with their new number one. Does this mean Abeischer's sticking around?
MONTREAL (CP) -- The Montreal Canadiens have re-signed goaltender Cristobal Huet to a two-year contract.
Huet, 30, posted an 18-11-4 record with seven shutouts, a 2.20 goals-against average and a league-best .929 save percentage in 36 regular-season games.
His solid play allowed general manager Bob Gainey to deal struggling former Hart Trophy winner Jose Theodore and his hefty contract to Colorado and gave the Canadiens the goaltending they needed to make the playoffs with a late-season surge.
"Cristobal Huet is a very valuable member of the Canadiens' organization who helped our team to clinch a playoff berth last season," Gainey said Monday in a release. "Cristobal likes the city of Montreal, we know he wanted to remain with the Canadiens, and we are pleased to have him under contract for the next two seasons."
There was some doubt about Huet's ability to perform under the pressure of the post-season but the French goalie responded by posting a 2.33 GAA and a .929 save percentage.
Huet was acquired by the Habs from the Los Angeles Kings in 2004.

I think Abby won't be seeing much more of Montreal. He'll have his bags packed I think by October or October 2007.

RE: Huet's Back
That's a good contract lenght for Montreal. In two years, you will have the option to resign ChristoWall, or giving Danis the job, or maybe Price going to be ready? If Christo win less than 6millions for these two years, I call this a good signing for Montreal.
Maybe David Aebischer will start the year in Montreal, but he won't be here after christmas. I think Gainey said he want to start the year with a Huet/Aebischer tandem.
