Is Huet untouchable?

Quote:
While trade rumors surround the Canadiens, one name that continues to pop up is star goaltender Cristobal Huet.

However, according to the Montreal Gazette, even though there might be a temptation to trade him, he appears to be untouchable for the moment.

Huet ranks eighth in the NHL in goals-against average and fifth in save percentage, and while rookie Carey Price has been stellar between the pipes for the Canadiens, they may opt to keep both goalies.

In my opinion, Huet should stay for one more season, the time for Price to get well used to the NHL. As we saw in the last few games, Huet has been very solid, and Price had some troubles in the last game. Price is the future, but Huet will help him and the Habs make the future brighter.

RE: Is Huet untouchable?

Huet is a UFA this offseason. Unless he's in love with Montreal, there is no way he'll stay around for 1 more year when he can probably cash in and get a big payday this offseason. Besides, Price should be ready by next year with the amount of time Montreal already gives him.

I agree Cronox with what you are saying. But when Bob Gainey says that Huet is one of the untouchables, it becomes unclear to me what they will do with him at the end of the season. Would they lose him for nothing? Price is the future, so they won't offer Huet a multi-year contract...

RE: Is Huet untouchable?

The ultimate question is how much does Huet like playing in Montreal? I don't know that team well enough to answer that question. Obviously, Price is the future and he will need to continue to grow next season. But will Huet be willing to miss an opportunity to cash in on his past success so he can help Montreal in the short term? Its most likely Montreal would only want Huet for 1 year (two at most) and I can bet a couple of teams out there will be willing to pay more money, give more playing time, and give more years than what Montreal can offer.

How many young prospect do The Habs have in their system? I know we have 1 here in Cincinnati Cedrick Desjardins but he has alot of work to do before he moves up to the AHL or even the NHL.

Don't forget Halak. Got to keep him in the equation.

I think Huet can decide his future for himself depending how he does in the playoffs. A strong performance and he can command what he wants from Montreal or go else where. Poor performance and he may be stuck with whatever the Habs decide to throw at him.

I think they will sign him for a one year contract and in two years Carey Price will be the #1 goalie
