Slapshot has been around for 30 years now. It may not be the best but is definately a favorite of many. 30 years later and the Hanson brothers are still doing paid apperances... now thats something!

Miracle. Nothing captures the beauty and the sacrifice of the sport better than that film.

RE: Is SLAP SHOT the best hockey movie ever?
It's sad there aren't more pure hockey movies because the ones that do exist are mostly very poorly done. The "Mighty Ducks" franchise is just awful. They are movies made by folks who know very little about the game as well as being just terrible films. The worst of all has to be "MVP". It just sucks on every level imaginable. How degrading to the sport to have a hockey movie with a chimp playing... it is just plain stupid.
The only movie about hockey that is any good is "Slapshot". It's fun and the hockey is passable. The only other films I would mention besides "Slapshot" are movies with hockey in them but they are not hockey movies. Those would be "Strange Brew", "Happy Gilmore" and "Clerks" (they play street hockey on the roof). They're not bad as films.
Many people like "Miracle on Ice" but it is just too melodramatic and I find myself laughing at the parts that are supposed to be "uplifting" and groaning at the "dramatic" sequences. It is meant to be a triumphant guy film in the style of most war films but like most war films it is pure melodrama and I just can't swallow that kind of stuff. Too cheesy and sappy for my tastes. "Mystery, Alaska" is just plain boring. The latest Maurice Richard film was ok but I can't even remember the title so that's saying something about how memorable it was. However, it was better than "Mytery, Alaska"... holy crap that was boring.
Has anyone seen "H-E Double Hockey Sticks"?
My List of Best Hockey Flicks
1) Slapshot
2) Happy Gilmore
3) Strange Brew
