Mystery Alaska is the best hockey movie

RE: Is SLAP SHOT the best hockey movie ever?
Many people like "Miracle on Ice" but it is just too melodramatic and I find myself laughing at the parts that are supposed to be "uplifting" and groaning at the "dramatic" sequences. It is meant to be a triumphant guy film in the style of most war films but like most war films it is pure melodrama and I just can't swallow that kind of stuff. Too cheesy and sappy for my tastes.
I must respectfully disagree with your assesment of "Miracle." How can you not appreciate this exchange:
INT. LOCKER ROOM - NIGHT
Brooks walks in the locker room and begins stalking around. He turns to Craig Ramsey.
Brooks: Who're we playing, Rammer?
Ramsey: Sweden.
Brooks overturns the drinks table.
Brooks: You're god damned right we are. We're playing Sweden. In the Olympics. And we're playing like it's some throw away game up in Rochester.
Eruzione: We're trying, Herb.
Brooks: Worry about your own game, Rizzo. There's plenty there to keep you busy.
Brooks turns to Rob McClanahan, icing his leg.
Brooks: What's wrong with you? Put your gear on.
McClanahan: What?
Brooks: I said put your gear on.
McClanahan: Doc said I can't play.
Brooks: Yeah, I know, he said you had a bad bruise. You know what? Put your street clothes on. I don't have time for quitters. A bruise on the leg is a helluva long way from the heart. Candy ass.
McClanahan stands up and throws down the ice bag.
McClanahan: What'd you call me?
Brooks: You heard me.
McClanahan: What do you want me to do, huh? You want me to play on one leg? I'll play on one leg!
Brooks: I want you to be a hockey player!
McClanahan: I am a hockey player!
He lunges at Brooks and his teammates have to hold him back. Brooks exits the locker room as McClanahan's screams can be heard echoing down the hallway. Brooks passes Craig Patrick and eyes him.
Brooks: That'll get 'em going.
Patrick: Yeah, I'll clean up.
That is one of my favorite scenes in any movie, not just hockey movies. Any movie!
"How would you know? When I played you were in your 3rd year of
8th grade." - Ducks color analyst Brian Hayward to Sean Avery.

You can't beat Slapshot, but my best hockey movies are Net Worth(Ted Lindsay's battle to launch the fledgling NHLPA) & 1971's Face-off, a Love story involving a Canadian Professional Hockey Player(Billy Duke) and a hippy folk singer(Sherry Nelson). Their union is tumultuous, as both try to come to terms with their differences in careers and lifestyles. They realize too late that they both love each other. Shot in/around Toronto, Ontario CANADA and includes good use of vintage NHL footage
