UNIONDALE, N.Y. (CP) - The New York Islanders signed defenceman Chris Campoli to a US$1.9-million, three-year contract on Monday.
The 23-year-old has 48 points (10-38) in 131 career NHL games - all with the Islanders.
"Signing Chris Campoli to a long-term contract was a priority of ours this off-season," Islanders GM Garth Snow said in a statement. "He's one of the most skilled young defenceman in the NHL and we're thrilled that he'll continue his development in an Islanders uniform."
The Islanders selected Campoli in the seventh round of the 2004 draft.
I think its a great deal to pay an up and coming 23 yr old defenseman under $1M a season when you see mediocre UFA defensemen getting $3M+ /year. A healthy Campoli will probably net over 30+ points which is a great bargain.
