Kings Have Goaltending Controversy

According to Sportsnet the Kings think they have 3 starting goaltenders, Mathieu Garon, Jason Labarbara and Dan Cloutier. Apparently they have Cloutier ranked #1 of those 3. i don't know what Marc Crawford was doing in Vancouver for the last few years but I guess it wasn't watching the games. Had he watched a game or two he would know that cloutier is at best a minor league back-up. I don't know how this guy keeps getting contracts.

RE: Kings Have Goaltending Controversy

Mathieu Garon and Dan Cloutier will probably play half the games and the best one will earn the #1 spot.

Dan Cloutier is far from a minor league goaltender. Does Jose Theodore a minor league goaltender? It's not because your not as good as you should in a stretch of games (or in a year) that you should be call a minor league goaltender. I'm not sure however if Dan Cloutier is the solution in Los Angeles.

Also, does these three goaltenders have to pass the waivers? If so either Mathieu Garon or Jason Labarbera will be trade for sure.

(Ty Conklin IS a minor league goaltender)

RE: Kings Have Goaltending Controversy

It's not that Cloutier has had a bad stretch of games. He has been terrible since he was in Tampa. I couldn't believe it when the canucks got him in the first place. He has the odd stretch of good games but for the most part he has been a pretty weak goalie. He may however be good luck. The last two teams to sign him got Khabibulin and luongo as their next tenders, who knows what star goalie the kings will get once they get sick of Cloutier's weak regular seasons and even worse playoff performances.

knowing Cloutier one of two things will happen.
1 - He will get injured
2 - He will have a bad 6 weeks

not saying he is a bad tender, but if i was Marc Crawford, i would have have Garon as the starter and Cloutier try and earn the starter spot of him!

RE: Kings Have Goaltending Controversy

Well Cloutier has started out with some pretty weak games. Looks like Adrock was right with Garon starting and Cloutier trying to get the starting spot. I feel bad for some teams who pick up an older proven goalie who doesn't perform for the new team. The Kings however should have known better and I will take pleasure in their failures this year.

i reckon Garon should have always been in as starter and have Cloutier earn the spot. Garon is the younger of the two, he isnt as injury prone as Cloutier is, and he has stayed with the same team as last season so frankley, Cloutier had nothing to loose and everything to gain where Garon has atleast something to loose.
