Kings to retire Robitaille's number

Quote:

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- The Los Angeles Kings will retire Luc Robitaille's No. 20 jersey in a ceremony in January at the Staples Center.

Robitaille will join Rogie Vachon, Marcel Dionne, Dave Taylor and Wayne Gretzky as Kings players to have their jersey retired. Robitaille also will be inducted into the team's Hall of Fame as part of the evening's festivities before the Kings' game against the Phoenix Coyotes on Jan. 20.

"Having your sweater retired by your team is an incredible honor," Robitaille said in a statement Monday. "When I first came to L.A. more than 20 years ago, I never would have imagined this happening. This honor means so much to myself and my family, and I am very honored and humbled indeed."

The 40-year-old Robitaille is the highest scoring left wing in NHL history and the Kings' leader in goals scored. He announced his retirement in April following his 14th season with the Kings and 19th in the NHL.

Robitaille had 668 goals and 726 assists in 1,431 regular-season games. He also had 58 goals and 69 assists in 159 playoff games.

I'm glad they are doing something to honor Robitaille.
