Kovalchuk goal drought finally over ...

Goalless so far this season, Kovalchuk's frustration has been apparent in the last 2 games as he could not seem to get a goal into the net. Despite taking over 11 shots the other night against Hurricanes and having multiple breakaway chances against not only Carolina but Florida as well, he has been unable to find the back of the net. It's been apparent how much the team have been trying to set him up to get that proverbal big first one, as on the powerplay they've been a little hesitant to shoot if the passing lane to him was open, leading to a number of bad shots and wasted chances. However tonight, in the final 2 minutes of overtime against the Washington Capitals, Kovy got the puck on a lucky breakaway and not only grabbed his first goal of the season but essenially grabbed the W for the Thrashers. Hopefully this will take the pressure off of Kovy and eliminate the unspoken urge to pass him the puck so often on the PP as it is obvious the Capitals were expecting him to take the majority of the shots and were putting much more pressure on him than any one else. I hope this is the first of many this season.
