Leafs sign D Kronwall to one-way deal

The Toronto Maple Leafs have locked up their second player in as many days, signing defenceman Staffan Kronwall to a two-year contract.

The one-way deal pays him $475,000 next season and $500,000 in 2008-09.

Kronwall played 47 games with the American Hockey League's Toronto Marlies in 2006-07, scoring three goals and 17 points.

He was Toronto's ninth choice, 285th overall, in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.

If only the Wings could've signed Niklas Kronwall to that kind of contract instead of the $3M/year extension they gave him earlier in the year.
