Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist should have a new contract in place by the Jan. 26-27 All-Star break, reports the New York Daily News.

Lundqvist, 25, appears to be closing in on a new long-term agreement with the Rangers. As of Jan. 1, all teams are allowed to sign their players to extensions and it won't affect this season's salary cap.

Don Meehan, Lundqvist's agent, told the Daily News he expects his client to be locked up shortly.

"My guess is that Henrik will be under contract to the New York Rangers by the end of this month," Meehan said.


Neither Rangers GM Glen Sather nor Meehan want negotiations to drag on, and Meehan expects to "give Glen a call [today] and we'll get to work on it."

Lundqvist hopes to play his entire career in New York.

"Of course, I like it here, no question about it," he told the Daily News. "I don't just like it, I love it."
