Luongo is Back in FLA
Shoot, The Panthers practices are always open to the public. I wish I would have known he was in town.
I think he really didn't want to leave Florida.
John
Roberto Luongo was back on familiar ice Tuesday, working out at Incredible Ice with a bunch of his former Florida teammates.
Luongo has spent time this summer working out at Incredible Ice while staying at his Parkland home, but is gearing up for training camp of his own in British Columbia.
Luongo was wearing his Vancouver practice jersey, his white 'Johnny Canuck' mask and green and blue pads; after practice, he spoke about a number of things, including how exciting Vancouver's playoff run was last season. Luongo looks tan, healthy and happy; he looks ready to pick up where he left off.
Luongo says he believes a lot of the bitterness is gone about last year's trade and that he thinks this is Florida's year to break though.
Last season when the Panthers came to Vancouver, Roberto seemed to mock the Panthers' always-sunny disposition, saying "from what I see, I don’t think things have changed very much down there. I know they are not where they want to be in the standings, and that’s the main issue. First and foremost you want to be in the playoffs and they need to go on a bit of a run to get back in the race. ''
Roberto on Tuesday: "I think this year might be the year they finally make the playoffs. They've made some good moves during the offseason. It would be nice to see the team succeed here because the fan base is only going to grow if that happens. It's a nice place to play so it would be a shame to have another season like they've had in the past. Again, I think this year it's time for them to make their stride.''
Also: "I'm fortunate that they let me skate here, that those guys would invite me back. Obviously, as I've said a million times before, my plan was not for me to leave here. But things happen for a reason, and for me, things couldn't have worked out better. And now I get to enjoy the summers down here. With the heat. And the rain. I get the rain in both places. It's all right though. I'm not going to complain.''
Louie says he spent the past couple weeks in Montreal and is back in town packing up and getting ready for training camp. He adds he can't wait for Vancouver's visit to South Florida in Feb., and adds the game will be a sellout if only because his in-laws will buy so many tickets.

RE: Loungo is Back in FLA
I'm sure Luongo doesn't miss facing 40+ shots almost every night.

RE: Loungo is Back in FLA
Hmmmm 40+ shots a night? Can you back that stat up? I am season ticket holder in Florida and I don't remember that?
OK UPDATE: Luongo faced 33.3 shots on avg for the 2005-06 season. Not 40+ (as a side note he faced 28.5 avg last season)

RE: Luongo is Back in FLA
In 75 games with Florida in 05-06 Luongo faced 40 or more shots 14 times and 50 or more 3 times.
In 76 games with Vancouver he faced 40 or more shots 5 times and had no games with more than 43.
So it wasn't quite every game but was every 5 or 6 games which was a lot more often than in Vancouver.

RE: Luongo is Back in FLA
I agree he had an easier time with the Canucks.
I was just saying that 40+ a night was stretching the truth a little. Using the stats you give to get the average I posted he faced a lot of nights that were around 30 shots or less.
Its all water under the bridge now. Its to bad the Cats skrewed up and let him go. He did really want to stay I think.

RE: Luongo is Back in FLA
I thought I read a stat or a quote somewhere saying that Luongo needs to face a good number of shots or else he doesn't do as well. if he doesn't get a certain amount of shots on him, he isn't his usually stellar self. i think its something to do with him getting into/falling out of his "zone" or a comfort level thing. does anyone know his stats when he's faced like under 20 or 25 shots in a game?

RE: Luongo is Back in FLA
He won 56% of the games when the shots were in the 20s.
He won 68% when the shots were in the 30s.
He won 60% when the shots were in the 40s, which was only 5 games and he won 57% of the games when he faced less than 20 shots.
He does seem to be at his best when he faces at least 30 shots. If you do not count the games he was pulled in, his winning percentage would be 67% with less than 20 shots and 58% when the shots are in the 20s.
This is based on regular season games in Vancouver.
