Luongo to skip All-Star Game
Wednesday, January 9, 2008
THE CANADIAN PRESS
VANCOUVER -- Roberto Luongo announced Wednesday he will skip the Jan. 27 NHL all-star game in Atlanta.
The Vancouver Canucks star goaltender, voted in by fans as the starting goalie for the Western Conference, wants to spend time during the break with his pregnant wife, Gina, at their off-season home in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. The baby is due in April.
With the permission of the Canucks, Luongo will also miss Vancouver's first game after the all-star break, Jan. 29 at home against Dallas. The Canucks then travel to Florida where Luongo will join up with the club for games Jan. 31 at Tampa Bay and Feb. 1 at Florida.
Luongo's 263,221 votes were the most among Western Conference goalies, ahead of the 180,381 garnered by Pascal Leclaire of Columbus.
The NHL will announce the remainder of the Western Conference all-stars on Thursday.

RE: Luongo to skip All-Star Game
Family is important and Luongo is showing that he cares very much about his family by spending time with his wife. I know it's probably not easy for him to miss the All-Star Game or the game after but in a time like this, I think it's important to take time out of the schedule and spend time with family, especially when his wife is pregnant.

RE: Luongo to skip All-Star Game
I'm happy that he got voted into the All-Star game, but I'm sad to see he won't be playing. Obviously, the guy has his priorities straight and I'm just happy to see that people are understanding to his situation and don't act like jerks just because a guy wants to spend some time at home.

RE: Luongo to skip All-Star Game
I second that, family is more important. But I hope all other chosen players will be able to attend, hopefully no injuries from now till the all-star break.
