Manny Fernandez traded to Boston
It looks as though the Boston Bruins have acquired a new goaltender.
According to the Pioneer Press, the Minnesota Wild have traded Manny Fernandez to the Bruins for forward Petr Kalus and a future fourth-round draft pick.
Fernandez was 22-16-1 last season with the 2.55 goals against average and a .911 save percentage. Fernandez missed the final ten games of the regular season and Minnesota's first-round series with the Anaheim Ducks with a knee injury.
Kalus had 13 goals and 17 assists in 43 games with the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League last season.

RE: Manny Fernandez traded to Boston
This is a good move for Boston considering a week ago at the draft I heard a rumor that Minnesota wanted Boston's 1st + 2nd rd picks (or something similar) for Manny. I think Manny should shore up the goaltending situation in Boston, but I don't think he'll be as good as he was in Minnesota. I'd expect a season similar to what Legace had in St. Louis after leaving Detroit.

RE: Manny Fernandez traded to Boston
I am surprised on one hand but not on the other. I'm not surprised in the fact that this was going to happen and Manny was going to get traded at some point - it was a matter of time. I'm a little surprised he went to Boston but I guess he goes anywhere a team can give something back that is worthwhile and the other team likes.

RE: Manny Fernandez traded to Boston
Boston gave up so little. They were the clear winners of this trade.
Luckily, Minnesota gets Manny out the door in time to spend his salary in the free agent market.
So everyone is a winner, though Minnesota should have gone more aggressively after better picks.

RE: Manny Fernandez traded to Boston
Maybe Boston was the only Eastern Conference team that showed much interest. It's possible that they did not want to trade Fernandez to another team in the West so took less to send him to the east where it won't come back to hurt them in games in the future.

It seems like Boston was the only team seriously interested in Manny. I guess Minnesota had to take what it could get before free agency started. Now they can go out and sign some free agents with the $4M cap space. Thats the only thing positive for Minnesota out of this deal. I think Kalus is could someday make a fair 2nd line player, but Boston definitely won this deal because they decided to wait until after the draft.
