Nabokov Nearly Traded Last Week

I dont believe this was posted before (if it was, then i apologize). The New York Post reports that Evgeni Nabokov was close to being traded last week to Phoenix in exchange for a package that included defensemen Nick Boynton, but the talks broke down.

After ending the year strong and picking up right where he left off, clearly Vesa Toskala is the #1 guy in San Jose, so that makes Nabokov expendable. With the hefty salary he carries, the net wouldn't be big enough for both of them and it shouldn't come as much of a surprise that he's the one whose likely playing for another team in the near future. i guess it makes sense to shop him around now. i just thought San Jose would wait until the deadline or at least a few months into the season to pull the trigger on a deal. Now that this one has apparently fell through, rumor has it that Evgeni could be headed to Bean-Town. With all the moves they made this past offseason, the biggest inconsistency for the Bruins so far has been between the pipes. Boston would most likely give up a guy like Brad Stuart in the deal.

It seems like this trade could work for both sides. I just find it hard to believe Boston and San Jose would pull off another big deal after last season's blockbuster.

Whats that about?

Boston is really struggling in goal right now. They need Nabokov and I think that the Sharks would like to have Brad Stuart back in SJ.

That's strange. He hasn't been very good in the echl this year and was sent down from Providence without even playing a game so I don't know what they'd want with him in the nhl. He's clearly not ready and he won't be any better than Finley and Thomas.

RE: Nabokov Nearly Traded Last Week

Boston needs Nabokov more than San Jose needs anything they have to offer.

Glen Murray is always in the buzz about who may go from Boston to SJ next, and is the most likely, if any.

SJ just gave Stuart to Boston and doesn't need him back. Offensive D-men are aplenty in SJ.

There has also been a little bit of talk of Bryzgalov to Boston for Murray. Probably won't happen though.

Not really, he's only 34 and he's having a good year on a crappy team. He's on a point per game pace.

RE: Nabokov Nearly Traded Last Week

There was a rumor on hockeybuzz.com about Toskala going to San Jose...it is Eklund though, so take it with a grain of salt.
