New Salary Cap is.....
$50.3 million
the new salary cap is $50.3 million
The salary cap in the NHL is going up again.
Sources tell TSN that for the 2007-08 season, the salary cap will rise to a maximum of $50.3-million. That is a $6-million increase from this past season when the cap was set at $44-million.
Under terms of the collective bargaining agreement, teams must spend at least $34.3-million on salaries next season.
This is the third straight season the salary cap has risen since the end of the NHL lockout when the cap was set at $39-million.

RE: New Salary Cap is.....
It kind of scares me to see the salary cap going up so quickly. In 3-4 years, I think we will be back to the same old problems. I'm not sure why it's going up so fast. The idea was to make all teams capable of signing great players, making it more fair. But what does a salary cap mean if it reaches 70 or 80 millions? The non-performing teams won't be able to make enough revenues to get close to these caps, and those who are winning will keep on winning and getting better and make more money.

RE: New Salary Cap is.....
The league doesn't really have a choice. If the revenues go up the cap has to increase because it is based on league revenue. I don't think it will continue to increase at the same rate as it has in the first years.
