Noronen to play in Russia

Can't say I blame him. He'd have played maybe 10 games all year. Vancouver could now be in the market for a backup but most likely I think they'll go with Wade Flaherty who's been starting for the Manitoba Moose. He has some history backing up Luongo and they know eachother well so it wouldn't be too bad of a situation.

ahh!
what a waste of a second round pick! At least it frees up a bit of cap space.

well we still retain his rights, hopefully he will have a great season in russia, then we can trade him. but im really hoping we dont use wade as our back up, hes too old and not even really a nhl goalie, id prefer we get someone elce, not sure who but im sure there is better option's out there

Wade Flaherty is a great tender for the Moose and i think that he will be a great backup for the Canucks... yeah it was a bit of a waste for them to get Noronen but its basically been the only 'wrong' move for the canucks all offseason.

Sure, Flaherty isn't that great but think about it this way: he'll only play like 10 games all year. Is it really that bad?

RE: Noronen to play in Russia

what i meant was that Vancouvers only mistake, if there was one, was to pick up Noronen for a 2nd pick and then let him go to russia to play... sorry if i had given any other ideas

They still retain his rights though as long as he is in Europe. If I were him I wouldn't want to be stuck behind Luongo. He left Buffalo because he wanted to be a starter and with Luongo he won't even get a decent amount of starts. If he has a good year his value may raise as someone said. Then they could trade him. Anyways, I think the point of getting him last year was for their cup run that never happened.

But since he left the team to play in Europe they retain his rights for as long as he is there.

RE: Noronen to play in Russia

I don't think he left Buffalo to be a starter.. I think he left because he is better than a #3 goalie (Miller and Biron are both better) and because Miller is so young and talented that there is really no room for improvement for Noronen. Noronen certainly wouldn't be the number one in Vancouver with Auld there, and like you said he would only see 10ish games with Luongo in town. Sort of a waste of their pick but what can you do... . I don't know about Flaherty as a backup but for such a small amount of games, they could play me as a backup and it wouldn't even matter.
