Ya, I just figure that way we get first dibs at the guys on our teams. I don't love the hurricanes because they're from Carolina, somewhere I've never been. I love them because of the players. So it makes sense to have the players from the team you like I think.

I don't like that plan... and you guys in Carolina just lost Gerber, Weight, and Recchi Wink.  No, I would rather have a fantasy league consisting of all NHL players, keep it simple.  Live draft is good, and anyone that can't make it could do their pre-draft rankings which have done great for me in the past.  Pre-draft leagues I've finished first, and am currently leading (NHL and MLB) but my live league I finished fourth (NBA) haha.

Julien, if possible I would like a league where we can choose our team name rather than going with an NHL name.  The league sounds more informal and laid back if we are allowed to personalize our team name.  Just my two cents.

I'm in with the Toronto Maple Leafs if you prefer the NHL team approach.

Okay... now that its starting to get underway I have a few questions.

Could you guys please explain what you will have to do in Yahoo fantasy as to playing the games, mainting your roster.

Is it defult roster or Fantasy draft?

Is there a salary cap?

Since this will be the first time for you Ryan and for some others, I suggest we keep it very simple and avoid the salary cap and default roster. The setup I propose is H2H with max moves set high around 75. H2H means head to head, so each week your team of 10-15 players will play against someone else's team of 10-15 players and they will compete in stat categories that we will have to decide soon. At the end of the week, you will be awarded wins, losses, and ties based on how you did compared to your opponent. The advantage to an H2H format is that there would be no necessary "max GP" rule to complicate things. So each night you play what players on your team you think will fare the best.

Ok guys, I think the idea sounds good to me. I won't have time to participate, but let me know if you like to have a subforum here called "QNHL League" to discuss things here and keep us updated, or you would like to put everything in one thread. I prefer the subforum idea, but you choose. So let me know.

No salary cap and it's a fantasy draft - you can pick who you want.  We pick a date and time to draft players (if we do a live draft) and about 10-15 minutes before it actually starts, I would suggest people getting signed in and into the draft so that people can pick who they want and goes a bit faster.  If we don't do a live draft, we can set it to autodraft and the system picks players for us (which isn't always the greatest since you don't always get the players you want).  We'll probably do a live draft so people can pick players they want.  I think we just pick teams for our team names - Julien might be better in explaining that.  As far as games go, you pick your lineup (you can probably change it for each game or change it every week - I'm not exactly sure since this is my first year doing fantasy hockey) from the players you have on your team to start (the rest of the players are benched - they can gather stats but don't earn you any points, i believe) and for each game that the players play in in real life, you get points for depending on the category (goals, assists, saves, etc).

Fot the one who want to know, The rules are the one that ELgillis wrote. THere will be a fantasy draft where we select regular players and a prospect draft where we draft prospect who where draft between 2003-2006. THe drafts orders will be randomize. If we change something in the rules, Elgillis or me will let you know. A few day before the draft, I'll post a thread with all the rules. If you have other questions, ask us!

In that post, I was just going off experience from other fantasy leagues I am in, so that's basically the basics of Yahoo fantasy leagues. I don't know exactly when live drafts would start, but what time works for people so we know when to set it for? Example: for me, I am open Monday through Thursday after 1pm, anytime after 11am on Fridays, and open all day Saturdays and Sundays.
