Offseason Outlook: Pens

Season Review:

The Penguins busted out and did better than anyone expected. Led by scoring champ Sidney Crosby and two rookie of the year candidates, Evgeni Malkin and Jordan Staal, the Penguins offense led the team into the playoffs. Marc Andre Fleury showed why he was a former #1 pick overall and played exceptionally well most of the season. The Pens made it into the playoffs for the first time since Super Mario was on the team. Overall, it was a great season to be a Pens fan.

Offseason Needs:

With all the strength the Pens have down the middle at center, they are lacking talented wingers. The recent resigning of Recchi and Roberts will help with this, but the Penguins can use someone with wheels to play with Crosby. If draftee Angelo Esposito can make the team out of camp, he could be Crosby's linemate by the end of the season and make the same kind of impact on offense as Staal did for the defense last year. The Penguins have a lot of young and talented defensemen. A big physical, veteran presence could be useful to go with Whitney & Gonchar's offensive prowess.

Next Season Outlook:
The future looks bright in Pittsburgh with their run n' gun offense. The Penguins have an embarassment of talented youngsters. They'll continue to get better & better each year. I'm expecting them to win their division next season and make it to the conference finals, at least.
