Possible SJ/OTT trade
I have read in a number of places over the last couple of days that a trade between Ottawa and San Jose could take place. The rumor feature Wade Redden going to San Jose for Patrick Marleu.
Wade Reddens salarie is 3.5 million this year and Patrick Marleus in 4.5. However, the Sens recently traded away Peter Schafer, freeing up 1 mill in cap space. Possibly for this move.
If the Sens acquire Marleu, they would have hit 41.015 mill in cap space. With 3 arb. mettings coming up for the likes of Ray Emery, Chirstoph Schuburt and Chris Kelly, the sens will be playing it tight to the cap as Emery is currently asking for 4.25 million a year.
Winner: San Jose. There defence will be much better with the help of Redden. Ottawa already has a really strong offense of team with the scoring capabilitys that can bring them to the cup final, Patrick would help increase it, but in the end, If this trade does go through, San Jose Wins.

RE: Possible SJ/OTT trade
Redden is on the decline of a great career. Though a vet top D man is what they need.
A straight-up trade wouldn't be SJ > Ott as far as player vs player goes, but it wouldn't take Ottawa much to tip the scales. As far as team vs team goes, SJ would be the clear winner. Then again, even before the trade they are the better team. (Minus coaching. Cough cough gag gag choke choke.)
Throw in a pick or a prospect, which SJ is known for making the most of, and call it a deal. Thornton is now the face of the franchise, and that makes Marleau touchable, which he never was before.
But like the other 1536234653623612465416512351 "Marleau to X Canadian team" rumors that go around every year, I'll believe it when I see it. It's always been nothing more than wishful thinking of the behalf of north-of-the-border hockey fans, though it actually has a chance of happening this year for the first time ever.
Go on, neighbors to the north. If there was ever a time to get your hopes up about acquiring Marleau, this would be it. But don't hold your breath, or you could turn bluer than a TML fan.

RE: Possible SJ/OTT trade
Redden did have a dissapointing year but I think he is far from the decline in his career. He had some injuries which hampered him throughout the season but at 30 years old he still has a lot of hockey left to play.

redden is a great defensemen and i'm a leafs fan and i'm saying that he is truly a great defensemen and for the sens to get rid of him that would be stupid even if its for marleau

RE: Possible SJ/OTT trade
Sharks won't give up Marleau that easily. The reason why SJ is so dangerous is that if you concentrate on shutting down Thornton, Marleau has the ability to punish you and vice versa. If they trade Marleau away for Redden, then they virtually become a 1 line team. To go far in the "new" NHL, you need scoring balance (re: look at Carolina last year, Buffalo this year and last year, and Anaheim this year)

RE: Possible SJ/OTT trade
sj should add in Ehroff, while ottawa adds a second line forward to fill in each teams new holes created, and for sj to keep thier second line.
TO SAN JOSE:
Wade Redden
Patrick Eaves
TO OTTAWA:
Patrick Marleau
Christian Ehroff
2nd round pick 08'

RE: Possible SJ/OTT trade
Until Redden proves he is the defenseman he was before Chara left, nobody will offer much in trade for an overhyped $6M defenseman.

RE: Possible SJ/OTT trade
Not to mention they traded Schaefer to resign the big guns next year. Marleau is a waste of a center, Sens got Fisher and Vermette and if they can't find a decent 4th line centerman, they could bring up Hennessy risky but could be good.
