QMJHL close to welcoming two million fans
BOUCHERVILLE - Tonight or tomorrow, the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League will reach the two million fan milestone for the first time in its history.
During the month of February, five of the ten best attendance numbers of the 2005-06 season were recorded. The highest spectator totals were registered in Halifax (9 157 & 9 487) and Quebec City (9 142, 9 117 & 9 037). Moreover, the Remparts welcomed their 245 684th fan of the year on February 28, breaking the single season mark established last year (242 187).
A few more organizations have surpassed or are on the cusp of surpassing their previous attendance records. The Drummondville Voltigeurs leaped over their previous high of 71 069 fans last February 24 in a game against the MAINEiacs. Four days later, they established a single game mark when 3 663 patrons flocked to the arena.
In Chicoutimi, 131 486 fans have already been to the Georges-Vezina Center, mere hundreds off of their single season record of 131 651 registered in 1979-80.
Moreover, the Wildcats are on the verge of welcoming their two hundred thousandth fan for the first time in team history at the Moncton Coliseum.
After 556 games, the QMJHL has averaged 3 528 individuals per game.
If the trend continues, the League should draw approximately 2 225 000 QMJHL fanatics when everything is said and done on the last day of the regular season, Sunday, March 19.
