Report from Prospect Camp
I went to the prospect camp today (saturday) and I know I am no scout but I thought I would voice my opinion and some of the players.
Forwards
Raymond, Mason: Thought he was over all pritty good, probably would have thought more of his play if i had not heard so many great things before.
Hansen, Jannik: I really liked Hansen he showed atleast me alot of speed. Seemed to always be on the man with the puck.
Ash, Goldie: I was really pumped to see Ash play because of him playing for my team in victoria this year but man he did not look out of place out there maybe even one of the top 5 out there. He can definitly fine the net and made some good passes. I can see him playing some games for the moose this year.
Simek, Juraj: I thought he was good today, good speed too. I think it will be Simek, or Hansen that make the canucks not both I think they are too simier of players IMO.
As for some of the guys I did not think too much of Bliznak and Fuller in my mind just did not cut it. I think Fuller will probably find his way back down to PG but for Bliznak unless he has a good moose camp he might find his way back to victoria. Another guy that I thought struggled even though I could see he was trying was Martin Thibeault. His size was not helping him and in the scrimmage he was just being eatin' alive.
Defense
Bourdon, Luc: Didn't really notice him too much untill the scrimmage but he was rock solid and played very well I think he is a lock for the Canucks blueline.
Yeo, Dylan: Not sure where he will end up this season my guess might be back in calgary. I like this kid alot, he was throwing people around out there with a couple of big hits.
Edler, Alexander: Edler was solid never saw him loose his check. If there is any room on the canucks defense after Bourdon and all the others I hope it is saved for this Kid because he is almost ready for the full time job in Van city.
Coulombe, Patrick: It looked like Patrick really tried to build up some upper body stregh during the offseason because he has definitly grown sense the echl playoffs. This will probably be the guy if any of the canucks blue lines goes down that gets the call up that is if Edler is already up there. Has good speed and has a good shot and played the canucks powerplay when we played for them last year.
Goalies
Ellis, Julien: I am a huge Julien Ellis fan from last years season. Me and a friend thought of him as a god with some of the amazing saves he would make. The only thing is he had a hard time in the AHL and after that no one in Winnepeg would give him a break thats the only reason I think he will be back here in victoria and Schnider will get the call over in Manitoba. In Camp though looked good in scrimage not so good in the other training workouts mainly because he was having problems with rebounding.
Hunt, Keyvan: Wow what can i say I was expecting this kid to do nothing but he was actually not bad. It seems kind of like an automatic to go down which he can get away with because of his size and speed (deadly combo). But for him I think get any better and have a really good pro career he needs to get better with his glove and blocker when down in the butterfly because if u get it high on him unless it hits him in the head it will go in. Hunt after camp is off to a college in Ontario I believe.
Schneider, Cory: Alright lets get to it with cory, he was very hard to beat in training today and was excellent as we know unless Sanford and Drew Macinyre make a fool of themselfs he will only be playing for a spot on the moose. From what I saw today he is winning the battle over Julien Ellis.
Battles in Camp? (opinion only please don't flame)
Bourdon/Edler: If Bourdon some how falls off the wagon and struggles for the rest of camp then this will be a crazy battle. Edler was great last year and looks good this year so far, While Bourdon looks NHL ready right now and will probably get a better look in the main camp.
Ellis/Schneider: I really think the battle started for this job last camp when only Ellis was there. Julien showed up to last years camp in bad contition and had a bad camp so thats why he ended up in victoria for most of last season. Right now as I said earlier Cory is winning. Both goalies know of the battle. “It’s up to the guys upstairs and they haven’t said anything to me yet. It’s an open battle as far as I’m concerned. You’ve got Julien Ellis is here and he looks good, and from everything I’ve heard about Drew Macintyre, he’s a good goalie so, I don’t think anything’s set in stone at this point.” Cory Said this yesterday http://canucks.nhl.com/team/app/?service...eid=336863 (Link)
Raymond/???: I think Raymond will take a real swing at making the canucks this year but it is yet to be shown who he is against. Raymond will be a sure bet to be at the main camp next week and thats where you will see whos hes fighting for a spot against. Those players would likly be Shannon or even a Isbister or Burrows. I don't think though he will make the team this year.

RE: Report from Prospect Camp
how big of a role do you think bourdon will have on the team this year? top 4? third pairing? will he get a chance on the PP or killing penalties?

RE: Report from Prospect Camp
On any other team I would think he could make the top 4 but because of the canucks Blueline I would have to think that he will be the 5th or 6th man with Krajiak and or Miller. I would think if he was going to get eather pp or pk time it would probably be pk just because he seems like a shut down defense men from what I saw from the two days I went.

RE: Report from Prospect Camp
yes I agree with S-Kings, I dont even know if Bourdon will crack the canucks roster.
here are the canucks top 4 d-man
Salo - Ohlund
Mitchell - Bieksa
then you got
Krajicek, Miller, Bourdon and Edler
and me personally would rank Alexander Edler ahead of Bourdon.
