RE: SMYTH AN ISLE?!?
First of all anyone who gives Smyth 7mil a year for 5 years is going to be out of a job pretty quick. He will probably be worth 5 or 6 mil for the next year or 2 but by the time he is 35 with the type of player he is he won't have much left. He has only played 1 full season since 2000 due to injuries.
With the addition of Smyth, Zednik and Bergeron the Islanders are a contender in the east now. They have had a great last month and Yashin is coming back soon.
I think there is a better chance of Smyth signing on Long Island than back in Edmonton.

RE: SMYTH AN ISLE?!?
2003 82 games, 2005 75 games, 2006 70+ games. Word is he is asking for 6 mil per, and the Oilers were offering 5.5 per. Comming off a 36 goal season last year and probably 40+ this season he will get the 6 mil he is asking for. And if you dont think that there are teams out there that will pay more your crazy. Look at the money Doan got and he took the home town discount.

RE: SMYTH AN ISLE?!?
I dont know, I think Kevin Lowe has parted ways with Ryan Smyth for good. If they couldnt make any deal by now I think it would be even harder for them to make a deal in the off season. Ryan Smyth, if he trys to return to Edmonton, will most likely be asking for less, but the real challenge imo is to persude Lowe to have him back. Smyth is Edmonton and I really hope he will return... but to me it seems highly doubtful. Only time will tell and I hope my thoughts are wrong.
But still, if Smyth shines as an Oiler and leads the Isles to the Eastren Finals im sure everyone in NY will be glad they made the deal. They gave up alot to get him but they have the potential to get alot in return. Once again, only time will tell.

RE: SMYTH AN ISLE?!?
Shane Doan signed for $4.5 mil and he had more points over the last 3 seasons than Smyth.
I'm not saying Smyth isn't good but I don't think he deserves more than $5mil per year for 5 years. There are only 35 players in the league that make $5mil or more and he hasn't been in the top 35 in scoring over the last 5 years (he hasn't been in the top 55 in the last 2 years) so I can't see him deserving $6 mil. I know he does more than score with his leadership but not 1 or 1.5 mil worth of leadership.

RE: SMYTH AN ISLE?!?
I just heard that Smyth was offered $5.4mil and would not take less than $5.5mil. That is what they are saying on Edmonton sports radio. Pretty crazy if this is true.

RE: SMYTH AN ISLE?!?
Smyth is one of the greatest leaders Edmonton has faced. He will be missed. He was a leader in the room and on the ice. It doesnt matter about points, it matters taht everygame he showed up to play and dug in the corners and never backed down from his check or a battle in the corners.
