RE: SMYTH AN ISLE?!?

I definitively think that the Islanders win in this trade. He's such a great leader. He will bring a lot to this team. THe Isles just did so well in trades this season with the acquisition of Bergeron, Smyth, etc... Same if they are now 9th in the East, I'm sure that they will win a lot of match and they will do the playoffs. I'm sure!

RE: SMYTH AN ISLE?!?

No Question- Isles won this trade. But this is going to be bad for Smyth. If he was to ever leave Edmonton I would of wished it would of been on better terms than contract talks. Smyth just wanted too much from a team and a city that has given everything in a heartbeat to him.

I find it very hard to see New York not to make the playoffs. Also Toronto should be able to muster a playoff spot, I really like their acqusation in Perrult. Montreal lost today unfortunatly. It is now all over for them imo. Only time will tell.

RE: SMYTH AN ISLE?!?

I don't think Smyth was asking for too much. The cap's prolly going up to 47mil next season, and Edmonton are just off a huge run in the playoffs, you'd think they'd be able to free up the money to keep their franchaise face.... the boos will reign down on Messier night....

RE: SMYTH AN ISLE?!?

Are you kidding? This is a good trade for the oilers. They managed to pick up 2 of the top 4 Islanders prospects and a top 20 pick in the draft. Not to mention that they will probably resign Smyth in the offseason. Remember the oilers are pretty much done this season.

As far as the Isles go this deal far from guarantes them a playoff spot, not to mention that they gave up a huge part of their future for a one year rental.

RE: SMYTH AN ISLE?!?

How can you say the Islanders got a good deal? 2 good prospects and a 1st rounder for a rental in Ryan Smyth? The market has skyrocketed!

RE: SMYTH AN ISLE?!?

The only way the Islanders win this trade is if they resign Smyth. If he goes back to Edmonton (which I think is likely), obviously, the Oilers win big. If he goes anywhere else, I still think the Oilers win. Nilsson all ready has seen NHL time (and on the Isles first line I believe), and O'Mara was their 1st round pick 2 (maybe one?) seasons ago. This is something like 3 firsts for Smyth, great trade by Edmonton.

RE: SMYTH AN ISLE?!?

Terrible trade for the Oilers. The way the guys were talking on TSN the Oilers will be lucky if Nillson ever plays regularly in the NHL. Smyth is the face of the Oilers and the fans there are going to be pissed off. The Islanders didn't have to give up much, they were not really competing with other teams for Smyth since other GM's didn't even know the Oilers were shopping Smyth. I don't know how you can trade your best/hardest working/most popular player and not take some time to get the best possible deal.

Lowe dropped the ball on this deal.

RE: SMYTH AN ISLE?!?

I think the Oilers won this trade totally. Lets see Isles loses a 1st rounder, Ryan O'Mara and a other prospect! Just for Ryan Smyth?? And he is a UFA at the end of the season, I dont think he'll stay in Long Island, But you never know with Charles Wang as your GM. But isles just got ripped right off. Kevin Lowe is very smart.

Terrible trade NYI gave up 3 first round picks for a player they have less than 1% chance to sign. The only way this works out for the Islanders is if they have the same postseason that the oilers had last year. Smyth either goes back to Edm next season, or a team Like Det, NYR, or Tor throw 7 million a season for 5 years at him and he goes there.

And as far as Nillson dont forget he played 50 games last season, and is just the type of player that thries in the oiler system. O'Mara could easily develop into a real good second line winger. And a top 20 pick in this draft could net a nice stay at home D-man the Oilers are desperate for.

Yeah your right great trade for the Isles, they should be awsome next season minus Smyth and Blake.
