Scuderi to have surgery on left finger

Associated Press
Updated: February 27, 2008, 8:00 PM EST

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Penguins defenseman Rob Scuderi will undergo surgery to repair a broken left little finger and be sidelined three or four weeks.

Scuderi, who played in Pittsburgh's first 64 games this season, was injured during a 4-2 win over the New York Islanders on Tuesday night. The operation was scheduled for Thursday morning.

New Penguins defenseman Hal Gill, acquired Tuesday in a trade with Toronto, is expected to make his debut Thursday night in Boston - as are new forwards Marian Hossa and Pascal Dupuis. All practiced with the team Wednesday in Boston.

The Penguins also are without forward Adam Hall, who is expected to miss the rest of the regular season after having surgery Wednesday to fix a hernia. Hall, who has two goals and four assists in 44 games, hasn't played since Jan. 19.

The Penguins also are missing captain Sidney Crosby, out since Jan. 18 with a sprained right ankle, and forward Gary Roberts, who hasn't played since breaking a leg Dec. 29. Crosby, who has been skating this week, is not expected to play until at least next week.

Roberts, also dealing with an ankle injury, skated with Crosby on Tuesday in Pittsburgh.
