Veteran defenseman Chris Phillips, who can become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, would like to stay with the Senators, reports the Ottawa Sun.

While there haven't been any contract talks lately, the Sun claims Senators GM John Muckler intends to try and keep him.

According to the paper, a number of teams, including the Edmonton Oilers, have called inquiring about Phillips, however the Senators have no intentions of trading him.

Phillips, who makes $1.6 million this season, plans to leave the business side of the game to his agent, Stacey McAlpine.

"There haven't been any talks that I am aware of," Phillips told the Sun. "Of course I want to stay here. I would hope that at some point there's some communication, even if nothing gets done, but I believe that communication is good for both sides."
