Sens-Bruins deal

http://tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=213812&hubname=nhl

Quote:
OTTAWA (CP) - The Ottawa Senators have traded winger Peter Schaefer to the Boston Bruins in exchange for veteran winger Shean Donovan.

The move will save the Senators space under the salary cap.

Schaefer has three years and US$6.7 million left on his deal while Donovan has one year left at $925,000.

The 30-year-old Schaefer had 12 goals and 34 assists in 77 games with the Senators last season.

He added a goal and five assists in 20 playoff games.

The 32-year-old Donovan had six goals and 11 assists in 76 games with the Bruins last season.

I really like this deal for Boston. Schaefer is a really good two-way player and I never cared for Donovan all that much.

RE: Sens-Bruins deal

Thats really interesting, although I have heard Schaefer in trade talks before.

Is that the first move the Sens have done all season? Murray should try and lock up Heatley for next year so he is not a ufa.

RE: Sens-Bruins deal

This trade was simply to clear up cap space for the Sens. Schaefer was a great player during his time in Ottawa, but Murrary was always on him to shoot the puck more. In a press confrence today, Murray announced that many times throughout the season Scheafer asked for a trade, probaly because he didn't like the treatment he was getting from Murray.

Donovan is a former Ottawa 67 so Im sure the home crowd won't think this is a bad move. Clearing up 1.1 million this season in cap and 1.2 for the next two years allows room for Murray to sign Emery or extend Heatleys contract.

I hope Scheafer does well in his new home. and Go Sens Go! No more room for runners up in Ottawa! We need a champion!
