Shanny is back..
The concussion Shanahan sustained on Feb. 17, in a collision with Philadelphia’s Mike Knuble, left him with vertigo. The room would spin when he did something as simple as bend over. He longed for a way to measure his healing, to know when he would be able to skate with his teammates again, but concussions offer no such benchmarks.
“That first week, some people were saying I was done for the season, some saying maybe I was done for my career,” Shanahan said. “One week stretched into two and two weeks stretched into three. I started to wonder who was right. And then suddenly it went away.”
Shanahan will return to the Rangers’ lineup for Wednesday night’s game at Madison Square Garden, against Philadelphia. Missing 15 games in the middle of a playoff chase says something about the severity of the blow his brain sustained in that collision. But it also says something about the sport he was jarred from
